Daily Update 3: Omaha Fashion Camp

We got down to business at Fashion Camp today. The kids all got on the sewing machines and started their projects for Friday’s fashion show!

Speaking of Friday…the camp fashion show will be delivered to parents digitally rather than in person to reduce the risk of spreading germs. We will post a Facebook Live video on the Omaha Fashion Camp Facebook Page at 11 a.m. for the little kids and 2 p.m. for the teens.

Today the little kids started making their masks. They learned how to measure and cut out the mask pattern, how to pin the project and how to sew on a machine on a curved line. Lots of dexterity, math and eye/hand coordination for our little campers!

The teens learned about fashion sketching, including the difference between an illustration, flat and float, how to measure using 10 heads, body proportions, different silhouettes, and an approach to creating their own garment…from concept to construction. Plenty of time was given for the teens to work on their projects for Friday, using the skills they’ve learned so far this week.

Action 3 News visited camp today and got some of our teens on camera working on the machines. Be on the lookout for that story in the next few days. If I find it, I will share with you. Tomorrow, our OFW videographer will be at camp getting footage of campers at work for a video that will air during the Omaha Fashion Week live stream at the end of August. For now, enjoy some pics from today:

We’ll see you tomorrow for day 4!
